The understanding of the term "brokering" varies from culture to culture. The AIJV uses the following definitions.
Broker (not permitted): The AIJV will consider a Valuer to be brokering if they stand as an intermediary in the purchase or sale of an item and their fee is based on a percentage of the outcome and/or is contingent upon successful completion of the sale or purchase.
Consultant (permitted): Where a Valuer assists a client in the purchase or disposal of an item and charges a consultancy fee (based on time and/or expertise required) for this service, irrespective of whether the sale or purchase transaction is completed.
